Mossyrock School District Announces Four Finalists for Interim Superintendent Position
MOSSYROCK, Wash. β The Mossyrock School District Board of Directors has selected four finalists in its search for an Interim Superintendent to lead the district during the upcoming school year. The finalists are Stephen Fisk, Effie Dean, Len Hiatt, and Regina Carr, all of whom bring significant educational leadership experience and a commitment to student success.
As part of the final selection process, district staff members will have the opportunity to meet and interview the candidates on Monday, June 15, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The district will also host a Community Forum featuring all four finalists at 6:00 p.m. in the Mossyrock School District Board Room.
The Board of Directors encourages parents, community members, and other stakeholders to attend the forum and learn more about the candidates. Community feedback will play an important role as the board considers the selection of the districtβs next interim leader.

Stephen Fisk
Stephen Fisk is a veteran educator and superintendent with extensive experience leading rural and small-town school districts throughout Washington state. Currently serving as superintendent of Odessa School District, Fisk has previously held leadership positions in Colville, Richland, and Spokane, building a reputation for strengthening academic programs, securing grant funding, and fostering strong relationships with students, staff, families, and community members. Raised in rural Montana, he has dedicated much of his career to serving communities similar to Mossyrock and is recognized for his collaborative leadership style, focus on student opportunity, and commitment to rural public education.

Effie Dean
Dr. Effie Dean currently serves as superintendent of the Nespelem School District, where she leads a district of approximately 200 students and 50 employees. With more than 30 years of experience in education, Dean has held leadership positions including assistant superintendent in Royal School District and director of student services and superintendent designee in Reardan-Edwall School District. She earned a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Washington State University and has built a career focused on expanding opportunities for students, strengthening services for Tribal communities, securing grant funding, and improving collaboration among staff, families, and community partners. Dean is also active in statewide educational organizations and currently serves as president of the Washington State Impact Aid Association.
Len Hiatt
Len Hiatt brings more than two decades of experience in Washington public schools, including service as a classroom teacher, district technology director, athletic director, instructional coach, assistant principal, and elementary principal. He currently leads Toutle Lake Elementary School and has previously served in leadership roles in the Kelso and Kalama school districts. Hiatt is known for his relationship-centered approach to leadership, strong community engagement, and commitment to supporting students and staff in rural school settings. Throughout his career, he has overseen technology planning, athletic programs, school improvement initiatives, and instructional leadership efforts while remaining actively involved in community service and scholarship programs that support students and families.
Regina Carr
Regina Carr is an experienced school administrator whose career spans more than 30 years in public education across Washington and California. Currently principal of W.F. West High School in Chehalis, Carr has served as a principal, assistant principal, instructional coach, assessment coordinator, and district program leader. Her leadership experience includes oversight of comprehensive high schools, alternative education programs, online learning, adult education, and career and technical education initiatives. Carr is recognized for her emphasis on collaboration, student achievement, and expanding educational opportunities through innovative programming, including dual-credit options, restorative practices, and college readiness initiatives. She has also led accreditation efforts, managed multi-million-dollar budgets, and developed partnerships with community organizations, colleges, and local businesses to support student success.
